Kyiv’s city authorities are advocating for a review of curfew restrictions and traffic regulations on bridges during air alerts, aiming to enhance logistics and enable the movement of transit cargo vehicles. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the city’s defense council has formally addressed the government, requesting adjustments to current safety protocols to ensure the city’s operational continuity amidst ongoing challenges.
According to Klitschko, the defense council has instructed defense forces and the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) to promptly prepare proposals for lifting vehicle traffic restrictions on bridges during air alerts. “Municipal ground transport is currently operational during alerts, and the defense council has tasked the relevant authorities to provide suggestions for removing traffic limitations on bridges where such restrictions are enforced during alerts,” he stated.
The capital’s proposals also include easing the curfew to support logistics operations and allow transit freight transport to operate more efficiently. Furthermore, changes are anticipated to enable commuters to reach train stations after delays in the arrival of intercity and international transportation services.
Klitschko emphasized, “It’s crucial that people can access train stations as trains and other intercity and international transport have been arriving late, often during curfew hours.” Additionally, Kyiv plans to adjust the metro’s operations during air alerts, specifically for the movement of trains along the Syrets-Pechersk line over the Southern Bridge connecting both banks of the city.
The mayor noted that if the new safety protocols are adopted, Kyiv will propose specific alterations in metro operations, ensuring that the Syrets-Pechersk line runs without restrictions during air alerts, facilitating passenger transport across the Southern Bridge. He also mentioned that the city will urge the government to consider a revised operational framework for businesses, medical institutions, educational facilities, and municipal services that cater to Kyiv residents.
