Romania’s women’s 8+1 and mixed 8+1 rowing teams are set to compete for medals in the finals on the last day of the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. The Romanian delegation has already secured a gold medal in the women’s double sculls, achieved by Adriana Adam and Simona Radiș.
The finals will be broadcast live on TVR Sport, with the women’s final beginning at 14:52 and the mixed final at 16:08. In the first event, the Romanian crew, consisting of Cristina Drugă, Geanina Juncanariu, Ancuța Bodnar, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu, Amalia Chelaru, Adriana Adam, Simona Radiș, and coxswain Victoria Petreanu, will compete in lane 5 between the USA in lane 4 and New Zealand in lane 6. The Netherlands, Canada, and Great Britain will occupy the top three lanes, which are less affected by the channel’s conditions.
The heats followed a unique time-trial system, similar to cycling, where the boats started one minute apart and times were recorded separately. Romania secured a place in the finals with the second-best time in their heat.
Previously, Romania’s team won a silver medal at the 2025 World Championships in Shanghai, finishing behind the Netherlands and ahead of Great Britain. The team also claimed world champion titles in 2022 and 2023.
The second final featuring Romanian athletes is the mixed 8+1 event, scheduled for 16:08. The lineup includes Cristina Drugă, Amalia Chelaru, Adriana Adam, Florin Lehaci, Cosmin Pleșescu, Ciprian Tudosă, Ștefan Berariu, Simona Radiș, and coxswain Victoria Petreanu. This event marks the second time mixed 8+1 has been included in the world program, with Romania being the inaugural champions last year.
Leading up to the final day, Romania’s medal tally stands at one gold medal in women’s double sculls by Adriana Adam and Simona Radiș. Last year, the team achieved six medals, comprised of two golds and four silvers.
