Nashville Airport Proposed to Be Renamed After Dolly Parton

Nashville International Airport may soon bear the name of country music legend Dolly Parton, according to a proposal announced Friday by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and airport officials following the beloved artist’s death on August 25 at the age of 80.

The initiative to rename Nashville International Airport (BNA) aims to create a “lasting tribute to her invaluable legacy,” as noted in a press release from the governor’s office and airport management.

Dolly Parton inspired generations of people in Tennessee and worldwide, the release stated.

“In a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting for BNA to be named after Dolly Parton,” said Governor Bill Lee in a message shared on the social media platform X.

Nashville is Tennessee’s busiest airport, with more flights than all other airports in the state combined.

Born in Tennessee in 1946, Dolly Parton moved to Nashville in 1964, where she launched her career as a songwriter and singer, eventually becoming one of the most recognized figures in country music.

The American singer passed away in Nashville on Tuesday at the age of 80, according to her management team. Parton died after a “brief battle with cancer,” her representatives informed the American press.
