Ukrainian Resistance Launches Drone Action in Donetsk on Independence Day

Ukrainian resistance fighters reminded the populace of Donetsk’s Ukrainian identity by conducting a drone action on Ukraine’s Independence Day. Despite currently being under Russian control, the participants emphasized the city’s affiliation with Ukraine.
The drones flew over the central square of Donetsk, delivering a poignant message: “Donetsk is Ukraine.”

Context
- The Russian Federation began its war against Ukraine in 2014 by annexing Crimea and occupying parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Since a controversial referendum in 2022, Donetsk has been labeled the capital of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, a designation backed by illegal authorities.
