Vasile Tofan, the Prime Minister of Moldova, announced on Tuesday, August 25, that he has nominated Claudiu Năsui, a former Romanian Minister of Economy and current USR deputy in Romania, for the position of Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
Năsui confirmed on Facebook that he has accepted the role and intends to resign from his parliamentary position in Romania. In his acceptance, he expressed alignment with Tofan’s vision for Moldova to become a welcoming environment for entrepreneurs.
Prime Minister’s Insights
In his social media message, Tofan highlighted Năsui’s unique blend of strong economic education, private sector experience, and political involvement. He emphasized Năsui’s commitment to reducing bureaucracy, enhancing transparency in government spending, and increasing public sector discipline, thereby creating a more favorable landscape for small and medium-sized enterprises.
“Claudiu has consistently supported bold reforms, even when they challenge entrenched structures or privileges,” Tofan stated. He stressed the importance of having such energy within the Ministry of Economy.
Năsui’s Priorities
Tofan outlined the primary objectives for Năsui, which include streamlining government bureaucracy, addressing issues within state-owned enterprises, cutting budget expenses, and removing barriers for smaller businesses. He noted the aim for the Ministry of Economy to become a driving force behind state reform and economic growth.
“Our government program centers on the economy, and we will implement necessary changes to our team to achieve this goal,” Tofan added.
Năsui’s Commitment to Reforms
After accepting the role, Năsui remarked on his resonance with Prime Minister Tofan’s vision for Moldova. He articulated that the state is not the solution to economic problems but rather a manager that can often exacerbate them by intervening in the economy. He believes that wealth creation depends on the principles of free markets.
“I chose to accept Tofan’s invitation to join the Government of Moldova, despite the need to give up my position in Romania’s Parliament, to contribute to the ongoing reform efforts aimed at liberalization and privatization since the fall of communism,” Năsui concluded.
