Mihai Stoica Reveals Dan Petrescu’s Future Plans with FCSB

Mihai Stoica, the president of FCSB’s Administrative Council, has addressed the future of Dan Petrescu, who recently attended the team’s match against FC Botoșani, which ended in a 3-2 victory for FCSB. Stoica, 61, confirmed that Petrescu, 58, is set to return to coaching in the summer of next year.

Petrescu has faced significant health challenges over the past year, which led to his resignation from CFR Cluj in the summer of 2025. Since the beginning of the current season, he has been spotted at various FCSB matches, sparking speculation about a potential future role with the team.

Mihai Stoica on Dan Petrescu’s Coaching Plans

“To clarify, Dan Petrescu will coach from next summer. Until then, I encourage him to join us not as a coach, but to lend some assistance. However, he mentioned that he does not want to mix coaching with other roles and prefers to take charge only when he can fully implement his strategies and recruit players he favors. He watches every match and is actively engaged, as I frequently reach out to him during games,” Stoica revealed on Prima Sport.

Petrescu prefers not to take over a team mid-season, emphasizing his desire to coach starting from the summer. His experience includes multiple coaching stints, most recently with CFR Cluj from April 2024 to August 2025.

Throughout his career, Petrescu has managed several teams including Jeonbuk, Kayserispor, and Al-Nasr, and has won the Liga 1 title five times, first with Unirea Urziceni in 2009 and four times with CFR Cluj from 2018 to 2022.

A former right-back, Petrescu began his career at Steaua București and played for various clubs including Chelsea and Sheffield Wednesday, earning 95 caps for Romania and competing in multiple international tournaments.
