Alexi Pitu, a player for UTA, expressed his thoughts following the team’s 0-1 defeat against newly promoted FC Voluntari in the third round of the Superliga. Despite the loss, Pitu believes in the team’s potential to reach the playoff stage.
After struggling with lack of playing time abroad, Pitu returned to Romanian football this summer to join UTA. He acknowledged his need for more match minutes to regain peak performance, emphasizing his belief that UTA, which has yet to secure a victory this season, can still make it to the playoffs.

Reflecting on the match, Pitu noted, “We entered the game a bit lethargic, especially in offense. The first half felt static for us. I can’t explain it, especially after a strong showing against Oțelul where we performed well in both halves. We made some interpretative errors that cost us the game. They are a tough team, but when we moved, we created chances that we could have capitalized on better.”
Pitu expressed confidence in his teammates’ abilities, stating, “I see good quality in the guys at training. I believe in this team, and I am sure we will have a good season.” He further elaborated on his personal journey, saying, “After two difficult years with fewer matches, I am working to regain my rhythm every day in training. I miss it, but I hope to find it again soon. I needed minutes, which is why I returned to Superliga. For a player, the most important thing is to play and be happy, and that’s why I came to UTA. The people wanted me here very much, and I hope to reward that trust by helping the team have a successful season.”
Pitu has played 20 minutes against Universitatea Craiova, 45 minutes against Oțelul Galați, and 55 minutes against FC Voluntari, leaving UTA with just one point in the standings.
