The cable car on Mount Etna transports visitors to an altitude of 2,500 meters, showcasing breathtaking views of Sicily’s volcanic scenery. Despite facing destruction from various eruptions, the system remains operational.
The Funivia dell’Etna continues to carry tourists along the slopes of Mount Etna, presenting panoramic sights of the surrounding volcanic landscape. Drone footage captures the cable car ascending towards the station at 2,500 meters, with gases and steam rising from the volcano behind it.
Inaugurated in 1966, the installation has been rebuilt several times due to the eruptions of Mount Etna. Owner Francesco Russo Morosoli notes that the system was reconstructed multiple times, including after a lava flow destroyed it in 2001, before its reopening.
Currently, engineers oversee operations on this active volcano, where gases, salty air, strong winds, and volcanic activity pose risks to equipment and service continuity. Nonetheless, this attraction draws tourists closer to the summit of Mount Etna.
