Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to shipping companies, urging them to temporarily halt trips to Russian ports in the Black Sea. This advisory comes in response to an official navigation warning from Russia highlighting potential dangers within its exclusive economic zone.
Officials from the ministry stated, “The Russian announcement may indicate preparations for provocations against vessels heading to Russian ports.” They expressed serious concerns about the safety of maritime navigation in these waters.
In light of the current situation, particularly following Russia’s warning, the ministry emphasized that it is impossible to guarantee the safety of ships and their crews. Therefore, shipping companies are advised to suspend operations to Russian ports until the situation stabilizes.
The ministry condemned Russia’s terrorist attacks on civilian cargo vessels and Ukrainian port infrastructure in the Black Sea, which they claim grossly violate international law and threaten global food security. Ukraine remains committed to utilizing all available means to ensure freedom of navigation to its ports, protect maritime communications, safeguard civilian lives, and uphold national security in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
