Iranian Newspaper Lists Leaders Demanding Accountability for Khamenei’s Death

The Iranian newspaper Hamshahri, known for its ultra-conservative and provocative tone, has released a list of notable figures it claims should be held accountable for the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Among those named are former U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and French President Emmanuel Macron, according to reports from AFP.

Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated in a written message on Saturday that “revenge” is “inevitable” following his father’s burial, who was killed in an Israeli-American attack on February 28, the first day of the war.

Khamenei declared, “This revenge is the will of our nation, and it must be fulfilled inevitably. These criminals, whose names are on the list, will take their desire to die peacefully in their beds to the grave,” in a text attributed to him, as he succeeded his father as the Supreme Leader of Iran.

On Saturday evening, Hamshahri published an infographic online reiterating these statements, although the infographic did not appear in the printed edition on Sunday.

This infographic features images of 13 individuals apparently referenced in the “list” mentioned by Mojtaba Khamenei, though it does not specify any names.

Notably, the portraits of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are marked with a target in the infographic. Other figures included on the list are U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and various European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and resigned British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

During the conflict, Iran has criticized European countries for failing to condemn attacks on its territory and accused them of complicity by allowing U.S. military planes to traverse their airspace.

This diplomatic strain is notably why relations between Trump and Meloni have cooled, as the American leader expressed dissatisfaction over Italy not granting full access to its military bases.
