Ukraine to Test Divorce Service via Diia App for 250 Couples

Couples testing divorce service through Diia app

On June 18, Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice announced the launch of a beta test for a new divorce service via the Diia app, targeting around 250 couples who have expressed a desire to separate. According to Deputy Minister Riabukha, these couples have submitted applications to participate in the testing phase.

“After completing the beta testing, which typically lasts about a month, we will be ready to fully release the service for all users,” Riabukha stated.

The Diia platform will allow only Ukrainian citizens aged 18 and older, without any minor children, to apply for divorce. Those with children must still seek court intervention.

To initiate the process, one partner must submit an application through the app, providing personal information for both parties involved.

“We will conduct various checks, including verifying the individual’s passport and tax identification number. A date will be set for a video conference to finalize the divorce, and both parties will need to sign the application using their Diia signatures,” Riabukha emphasized.

Following the application submission, a mandatory 31-day waiting period will commence, during which the couple can withdraw their request or appear at the video conference to confirm their decision to divorce.

After the waiting period, a video conference will be held with a state registrar to confirm the voluntary nature of the decision. If both partners agree, a record of the divorce will be created, and the divorce certificate will be mailed to them.
