Brazil – Morocco, one of the most anticipated matches in the group stage of the World Cup 2026
Brazil will be looking to get the finals tournament off to a flying start and put the disappointment of last year's quarter-final exit behind them, while Morocco will be looking to prove that their performance in Qatar 2022, when they reached the semi-finals, was no fluke.
Brazil face the most difficult opponent in the group since the first match and start the road with high hopes under the command of Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian managed to provide more balance and stability to a team that had a difficult time in the preliminaries.
The Brazilians reach the final tournament after a solid run of results, with only one defeat in their last six games, that suffered against France, score 1-2.
On the other hand, Morocco is coming after a good run in the training matches. The Atlas Lions are unbeaten in their last five friendlies, with three wins and two draws, including a 1-1 draw with Norway.
The two representatives met only once at the World Championship, in 1998, when Brazil prevailed 3-0. However, the most recent head-to-head duel went to the Africans, who won 2-1 in a friendly played in 2023.
Brazil remains the most successful national team in the history of the World Cup, with five trophies won and 74 victories in 114 matches. It is also the only representative present at all editions of the competition, starting with the inaugural one in 1930.
Morocco is participating in a finals tournament for the seventh time, but the results of recent years have confirmed the rise of African football. After the historic semi-final in 2022, the North Africans cruised through the qualifiers with eight wins from eight matches and have continued to impress with their consistent results.
