Jamie Vardy (39), former Leicester striker, launched into the world of podcasts with Jamie Vardy's Having A Party. There, he harshly criticized his experience in Italian football.
After playing his entire career in English football, Jamie Vardy switched countries last season, choosing an adventure in Serie A at Cremonese. He scored seven goals and provided two assists in 29 games for Cremonese this season. He is not at all satisfied with what he has seen in Italian football.
Jamie Vardy: “Serie A is much slower than the Premier League”
The England striker shared his thoughts on Serie A, comparing it to English football. “It is much slower, more defensive. Training is continuous. You're just running, and then you get to the game and you literally have nothing left to give“, said Vardy, who added: “It's not good when you're 38, 39, is it? But it's not just for me. That's how it works here.”
Another aspect that surprised the player was the power of the sporting directors: “They have a say in absolutely everything, it's crazy“.
To illustrate the difference in mentality, Vardy recalled a specific episode. “In preparation for the game against Bologna, we did what we used to do in England. We had a day off after the previous game. Everyone came on the pitch fresh and we won 3-1. Everyone was euphoric,” he recounted.
His expectations, however, were deceived: “In my mind I thought: “Good, we will continue like this”. But no… we went back to training every day, because “this match is very important”. But how? All the matches are, there is no difference, at least that's my mentality”.
The striker also spoke about his family's adjustment difficulties: “If I have to be honest, moving abroad with a family is very difficult. What was it like to come back? Very good, to be honest.”
