Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac (44 years old) launched a new proposal for Romanian sports. The politician, born in Babele commune in the south of Bessarabia (in the former Ismail county, now on the territory of Ukraine) and holder of Romanian, Ukrainian and Moldovan citizenships, would like to organize a joint competition between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

monday evening Tomato concluded negotiations with three parties to support the future cabinet. He has five days to obtain the necessary support and the investiture vote in Parliament.

The rapprochement of the Republic of Moldova with Romania and the European Union is one of his political priorities, and the appointed prime minister believes that this collaboration could also be extended in terms of sports.

Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac: “I would very much like to have a common Cup, of Romania and the Republic of Moldova”

Tomac stated that he would like to establish a common Cup between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, a competition that would bring together clubs from the two countries.

For now, it is not clear how such a project could be put into practice, given that the winner of the Cup traditionally obtains qualification in European competitions.

“Romania and the Republic of Moldova are two independent states, but the same people live on our territories. I think it is very good to encourage sports activities. I would really like to have a joint Cup“, said Eugen Tomac, at Antena 3.

  • In Romania, in football, the Cup was won this season by Universitatea Craiova, a team that went to the penalty shootout against U Cluj.

  • In Moldova, Sheriff Tiraspol defeated Zimbru Chisinau, score 2-0.

Also asked which national team he supports at the World Championship, the designated prime minister avoided indicating a favorite, stating only that he would like the trophy to be won by a European representative.

I wish a European country would win. I have sympathies, but I'd rather keep them to myself, but I wish it was a team from Europe.
