Stability is important in the life of tennis players, and Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli found it with their girlfriends.

Matteo Arnaldi is to marry Australian Mia Savio at the end of the year. The two have been together since 2022.”I was lucky because from the beginning she was able to travel a little with me. She was finishing her university studies in Australia. We were from two different countries, very far from each other, so we had to move together quite quickly,” he Arnaldi told ATPTour.com.

Matteo Arnaldi, who spent 19 hours and 42 minutes on court at this edition of Roland Garros, said it was not easy, but they found a way. “When you're committed to something, when you really care about the other person, you want to make the relationship work. One thing leads to another, and this year comes the marriage, the wedding.”

The Italian said he was not getting too involved in organizing the party, being content with the wedding taking place in his hometown of Sanremo.

It's nice to have your family around you at tournaments to spend time with and take a break from tennis and enjoy a night out – Matteo Arnaldi

Savio, who is often present at tournaments with her partner, has created her own brand of sportswear for tennis and pilates. “He's doing great. He is building his brand. Obviously, it's not easy in today's world to break into the fashion industry, because there are so many brands. It's not easy, but she was very brave to go for it, to create her own line, and she's taking care of everything“.

It was important to Arnaldi to keep their relationship more personal and not mix their careers too much in their personal lives, even though Savio played tennis in high school and understands the sport. “It's good to have someone you can talk to in the evening or whenever you might not feel comfortable talking to other people about it,” Arnaldi explained.

Matteo Arnaldi and the support received from his fiancee

This has been especially important in the past year. The Italian has been dealing with a persistent right leg injury. Earlier this year, Arnaldi lost eight of nine matches at all levels before gaining some confidence with the title win at challenger Cagliari.

She was by my side all this time, during the injury I had. I was absent for a while. It was the first time in my life that I got injured and stayed away from the circuit. It was difficult! I would come home and limp because I couldn't put my foot down. It was very hard for me. I also couldn't do the normal things in life because I couldn't walk around the house or go get things. So it was even more strange for me, especially because I hadn't experienced it before,” said the one who climbed up to 30th in the world rankings.

His fiancee encouraged him at every moment of this difficult period. “He was telling me things like, 'You're going to make it, it's not a big deal, it's not like you don't have the necessary level,' and stuff like that,” Arnaldi said. “It's not about tennis itself. We don't talk much about tennis itself.”

Flavio Cobolli and the need to travel with his girlfriend

His semi-final opponent, Flavio Cobolli, also has a long relationship with Matilde Galli. “I met her when I was nobody. I met her when I was 18, I was number 1,000 or so in the world, and now we're still together. I think we found something that obviously works,” said the 2025 Tiriac Open winner.

Cobolli met his partner at his best friend's birthday party. Matilde was there with his best friend's sister.

Matilde Galli never misses a match played by Cobolli, he said, explaining that she watches him even in the middle of the night. However, they never talk about the details of the sport.

Instead, the two support each other. Cobolli is among the best in the ATP circuit, and Galli is studying to become a director in a hospital.

My biggest dream is to see her happy in what she does. Family is very important. I want to spend more time with her and see her happy in whatever she does – Flavio Cobolli

“When she's nervous, while she's studying for an exam, I try to be gentle with her and help her make her life easier. But it's not easy when you're always on tour, you have pressure everywhere and you also have pressure at home. I think we're doing well. We have a great relationship,” Cobolli pointed out.

While some ATP players travel with their partners, Galli often stays at home to focus on his studies.

“Of course, I'd like to see her more often than I do now and see her at tournaments more often with me. But I think the first goal for her is to finish her education and then we'll see after college if she can come more often than she does now”, said the Italian from Florence.

Flavio Cobolli and the crisis overcome

Matilde is there when Flavio needs support, as was the case this year.

He had lost four of his first five games this season, after which he asked his girlfriend to spend some time with him on the circuit. This proved useful as Cobolli then reached the semi-finals in Delray Beach and won the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco. That didn't stop him from joking when his girlfriend came to the final in Munich, saying that next time he might not call her because he lost.

“I love her very much and I think she loves me too. We are very young but we already have a great experience, she is the one I want to have for the rest of my life,” concluded Cobolli.

It was important for us that we could count on each other. We hope to stay together for the rest of our lives – Flavio Cobolli

The two Italians shared their victories in ATP circuit matches, Arnaldi winning in 2023 in Umag on clay, and Cobolli, last year, in Roland Garros, in the second round.

Alexander Zverev (29 years old, 3 ATP) and Jakub Mensik (20 years old, 27 ATP) will meet in the other semi-final on the men's table, starting at 15:30.
