The “Bolojanist” who resigned from the positions held in the PSD defends Bolojan: “The coup did not come out of the PNL”

Constantin Toma, the social-democratic mayor of Buzău, praised Ilie Bolojan, interim prime minister and leader of the PNL, saying that he started “the crusade of common sense in Romanian politics” and it “must be continued”.
Constantin Toma, who has constantly criticized the actions of the party's central leadership, announced on Tuesday that he has resigned from the leadership positions he held in the PSD, but remains a member of the formation. Amidst the differences regarding the direction of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu had called Toma a “bologenist”.
Toma, mayor of Buzău since 2016, praised Bolojan and criticized PSD, on Wednesday evening, on Euronews Romania.
“The crusade of common sense in Romanian politics started by Bolojan must be continued, because the world has found that good things can happen in this country if, with common sense, you take the necessary measures so that it is good for this country. Unfortunately, at this moment, if the PSD comes, we will probably have the same bad measures, because the people are asking now, have you seen the latest polls, to increase salaries, to increase pensions, to reduce taxes and taxes, absolutely things which cannot be done at this moment”, he said, quoted by News.ro.
“The putsch did not come out of the PNL”
Constantin Toma suggested that the PSD was relying on a “putsch” in the PNL when it withdrew its support from Ilie Bolojan.
“The moment it reached us, the local and central budget officers, this opposition began, starting with Mrs. Olguţa Vasilescu, which slowly spread over the entire party, that tour with eight stops throughout Romania, I also participated in Brăila. All my colleagues said: it's amazing, let's get rid of Bolojan and stay in government. And I spoke up then and said: how to get rid of Bolojan, that he is not in our party? And they said: keep calm, the matter is solved! The putsch did not come out of the PNL, and this is the situation we have ended up in, the country does not have a stable government at the moment, and this creates a lot of problems for us”, he added.
