Layoffs at the state giant. Employees encouraged to change careers

The employment reduction at PGG is expected to amount to a total of 4.3 thousand this year. people, of which 3.6 thousand people will be included in retirement programs, and approximately 700 people will retire or undergo other layoffs. PGG encourages professional retraining for Koleje Śląskie.

PGG lays off employees. Former miners have a chance for a new profession
Since last year, Polska Grupa Górnicza has been cooperating with Koleje Śląskie on the professional retraining of retiring mining workers for railway professions.
The project assumes the employment of former miners in positions related primarily to the maintenance and operation of rolling stock: transport requires:
- train drivers,
- mechanics,
- electromechanics,
- rolling stock maintenance technicians,
and in the future – also administrative and technical staff.
Last week, PGG announced that 1,750 employees had already benefited from severance pay and mining holidays.

Layoffs at PGG
An agreement on support for employees leaving the mining industry, including changing professional qualifications and employment in new jobs in the railway industry, was signed in November last year by representatives of KŚ, PGG and Synercom Usługi Wspólne from the PGG group.
According to PGG's information on Monday, a joint project to employ former miners in positions related to the maintenance and operation of rolling stock is ongoing, and on Wednesday, June 3 this year. There will be another information meeting regarding the offer in this matter.
The program includes, among others: career counseling, aptitude tests, training and support in the employment process.
The initiative is part of PGG's restructuring activities aimed at supporting the retraining of selected employees and their exit from the industry. This is also achieved through the protective instruments provided for in the framework of the law in force since the beginning of this year. the amended Mining Act.
PGG is also implementing restructuring activities using protective instruments for employees provided for in the amended Act on the Operation of the Hard Coal Mining Industry.

The net loss of the hard coal mining sector amounted to PLN 1.75 billion in the period January-March 2026, compared to PLN 2.18 billion loss a year earlier, the Industrial Development Agency reported. The data includes the following entities: Polska Grupa Górnicza, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, LW Bogdanka, Południowy Koncern Węglowy, Spółka Restrukturyzacji Kopalń, Węglokoks Kraj, PG Silesia, Eko-Plus.
