The case reveals the scale of the problem of illegal migration and corruption in state structures. The criminal group not only facilitated thousands of people illegal stay in Portugal, but also enabled them to move on the European Union.
How did the net work?
According to police findings, the group operated in both Portugal and in the countries of the origin of immigrants such as Brazil, India and Pakistan. Criminals charged fees for preparing documentation, issuing fictitious check -in and opening bank accounts. Thanks to this, thousands of people could legalize their stay in Portugal, and then move to other EU countries.
What did the police determine?
The police reported that 13 people were detained as part of the “Gamberria” operation, and over 1 million euros in cash was taken over. According to CMTV television, one of the suspects is an employee of the Consular Department of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The officers emphasized that the criminal group facilitated the legalization of the stay of thousands of immigrants, many of whom are currently in other EU countries.
