South Africa coach Hugo Broos (74) announced the squad for the 2026 World Cup. FCSB centre-back Siyabonga Ngezana (28) was not called up and will miss the final tournament co-hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
The South African centre-back has had a season well below expectations and has missed a lot of games due to a meniscus problem, which could be solved by surgery, which Ngezana refused.
Siyabonga Ngezana did not make the squad for the 2026 World Cup
Siyabonga Ngezana has faced various problems this season and the South African defender has missed a lot of games.
Ngezana was an integralist in the last stage of the play-out, in the failure suffered by FCSB away from Hermannstadt, score 0-2. Previously, the defender had been left out of the squad for the previous 3 matches, scoring 13 minutes before in the 3-2 away victory against Farul on April 20.
Until then, Ngezana had missed 12 consecutive matches, the last appearance dating back to January 29, when he was an integral player in the draw with Fenerbahce in the Europa League, score 1-1.
Despite numerous absences this season, Gigi Becali revealed that Ngezana has signed a one-season contract extension, with the old deal set to expire in 2027.
