'Pulp Fiction' star has big question mark over his future after Cannes directorial debut

Actor John Travolta, who made his directorial debut last week at the Cannes Film Festival, does not think he will direct another film unless it is about a subject he is very passionate about, Reuters reports on Tuesday, according to Agerpres.

“When people ask me, 'Do you want to direct again?' … it has to be a subject that I'm passionate about because it's very exhausting, so you have to really love what you're doing,” said the legendary actor, who admitted that making “Propeller One-Way Night Coach” was overwhelming at times.

However, given the deeply personal nature of the subject matter – about a young aviation enthusiast who takes a plane trip to Los Angeles during the golden age of flight in the 1950s and 1960s – he was up to the challenge.

“I felt overwhelmed by the things I love, my family and my friends,” said Travolta, who is also an experienced pilot.

Travolta cast several members of his family in the film, including his daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, who said that watching her family work on set “was like a master class.”

Travolta produced, financed, directed, narrated and wrote the screenplay for the film based on a book he published three decades ago.

The star of films such as “Pulp Fiction” and “Grease,” Travolta was awarded a surprise award, an honorary Palme d'Or, on Friday ahead of the film's premiere and became visibly emotional, saying the award meant more to him than an Oscar.

“Propeller One-Way Night Coach,” which was designed out of competition, will be available to watch on Apple TV from May 29.

Travolta, who has never won an Academy Award, revived a declining career with his iconic performance as the assassin “Vincent Vega” in “Pulp Fiction,” Quentin Tarantino's film, which won the festival's grand Palme d'Or in 1994.

Many film critics consider it to be his best role, one that would go down in cinema history.
