In 2029, Russia may challenge NATO to a test. The head of the Bundeswehr warns

According to the German general, Moscow may be ready to test NATO militarily by 2029 at the latest. Germany's highest-ranking soldier says it bluntly: — Various indicators: armaments, personnel expansion, economic and political development, lead to one point: 2029. Could it happen sooner? Yes.

— Our problem is in Moscow and nowhere else, emphasizes the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr. Therefore, Germany now needs armed forces ready for immediate action.

Breuer is not alone in this assessment. Others also warn of the growing threat from Russia, including NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The furthest goes the Estonian security expert Erkki Koort, who even believes that Germany could be a potential first target. According to him, an attack on German territory would have a greater political and military dimension than an attack on the Baltic states, where many experts expect the first escalation.

Breuer cautiously addressed the debate on European nuclear deterrence involving Germany. “There is no need for new military solutions for this,” he said.

The Germans want to replenish their missile supplies

One more important declaration was made in the interview. Stationing of an American long-range weapons battalion in Germany planned during Joe Biden's presidency apparently it will not be implemented. “This is a strategic issue,” Breuer emphasized.

American missiles were originally intended to be an interim solution until Germany developed its own long-range attack and defense capabilities. Since the American presence will not come to fruition, Germany is considering purchasing its own systems as a new transitional solution. On this matter, Breuer visited the Pentagon the day before yesterday, and at the end of May, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will go to Washington to continue talks.
