The EU will have to resume the dialogue with Russia, “at the right time”, believes the president of the European Council

The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, reaffirmed on Saturday the openness of the European Union to the idea of discussing with Russia about ensuring peace in Ukraine, reports DPA, taken over by Agerpres.
On the occasion of Europe Day, Costa stated that the EU is ready to start talks about a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
“At the right time we should talk with Russia about common security issues,” said the senior European official, who stressed that the EU would not act on its own. He stated that the European Union will not take any measure that would undermine the peace initiative promoted by the US President, Donald Trump.
Shortly before speaking in Brussels, Antonio Costa spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, to whom he conveyed that the European Union is with Ukraine “in its fight for peace and in defense of our common European values”.
“Ukraine's future is in the European Union. We look forward to the next steps in your accession process as soon as possible. Together, we are building a common European future,” Costa added.
