Rapid also lost the match with CFR Cluj, score 1-2, in stage #7 from the Superliga play-off. After the match, the Giulești coach, Costel Gâlcă, spoke about the team's performance, the problems in the game, but also about his possible resignation, after the reactions from the stands and the weak form in the play-offs.
The guests' victory was brought by the successes of Zahovic and Andrei Cordea, the latter scoring from the penalty. Following this result, the Giulești team remains in 5th place, with 32 points, while CFR Cluj consolidated its third position, with three stages to go.
Costel Gâlcă, after Rapid – CFR 1-2: “It was the last chance”
The coach of Giulești analyzed his team's game, emphasizing the difference between the two halves and the defensive problems.
“It was the last chance, but we had a poor first half. They gave us a goal on the diagonal, we didn't close well and the goal came out, and then came the penalty phase. In the second half we changed. We were originally going to start with Lars (no Kramer) in the middle, but we said that maybe it's too soon to make this change at the beginning of the match. His behavior was very good as a midfielder.
We sped up the game and had more chances in the second half. In the middle it did not work as it should, many wrong passes, and the opponent came and developed the attacks. But I told you, in the first half we suffered.”
Asked about the reaction of the supporters, who challenged their own team during the match, Costel Gâlcă explained the context and problems in the team.
“The spectators should normally be frustrated, because we gave them hope that we can be there, to fight for a place in the European Cups. With us, I also said, the balance in the team was broken after Vulturar's injury. After that we had a lot of injuries, and if I'm not mistaken, we have 11 injuries. I don't know who we will play in Cluj, let's see if we recover from the injured and make a competitive team.
Costel Gâlcă, asked about the resignation: “We'll see”
You have to go on the pitch and give it your all, win the matches or that match. Attitude is important and I told them too that, with so much fear, we cannot enter. We have to have personality, we know that there is pressure in Giulesti. Even if we are wrong, the attitude must be there.
It's very little, 4 points in 7 matches. We still hope and believe that it will be the last one and we start to collect points, because it is important for us.”
Asked if he is thinking about a possible resignation, the coach answered evasively: “The fans shout a lot of things, they say a lot of things, but we'll see.”
