From cottage cheese to cosmetics. This is how OSM Rawicz emerged from the crisis

OSM Rawicz cooperates with approximately 100 farmers from southern Greater Poland. Until recently, the company's future was in doubt. — A few years ago, the dairy was practically doomed to bankruptcy. That's why, when I arrived, I started looking for solutions, says Jacek Myślecki, president of OSM Rawicz, on the website wiescirolcze.pl.
It was then that the idea of using whey was born, which was previously treated as waste and most often ended up in sewage treatment plants or as animal feed.
— I decided that we had to find a solution to turn the problem into profit. And taking into account the substances contained in whey, I decided that cosmetics were the direction in which we should look for an ally – explains Jacek Myślecki.

Cooperation with the cosmetics industry
Establishing cooperation with Symbiosis, a company specializing in the production of whey and tofu cosmetics, turned out to be crucial. — We quickly came to an agreement to try to create cosmetics from cow whey produced during the production of cottage cheese – adds the president of OSM Rawicz.
The result is Milky Whey cosmetics from the Back to Comfort line, produced by Symbiosis based on raw material from OSM Rawicz. — This is a pioneering project that allows us to enter the circular economy, despite limited funds for modern investments – emphasizes Jacek Myślecki.
Ecology and shorter supply chains
The new product is part of pro-ecological activities. 97% whey. it consists of water, so there is no need to use drinking water in the production of cosmetics. The cosmetics manufacturer has developed a technology for obtaining water and nutrients such as vitamins, riboflavin and lactic acid from whey.
An additional advantage is the shortening of the supply chain. — Cosmetics companies import the substances mentioned in most cases from China. We cut supply chains so we have everything in place. We transport whey several dozen kilometers to Poznań, where it is produced, notes Jacek Myślecki.

A new chapter in the history of the dairy
The introduction of cosmetics is an opportunity for OSM Rawicz to diversify its activities and return to the market. They look for partners in pharmacy and cosmetic chains and among individual customers. The president of the dairy believes that this alternative source of income will allow them to build financial stability.
The dairy is also involved in local activities – it encourages beauty salons to test new products, conducts presentations at schools and offers cosmetics to farmers supplying milk.
Part of the profits from the sale is to be donated to charity, including the Na Ratunek Dzieciom z Chorobą Tumorowej Foundation. The dairy also promotes the registration of potential bone marrow donors in the DKMS database, supporting the collection for six-month-old Leoś Karolczak.
OSM Rawicz, focusing on innovation and cooperation with the cosmetics industry, is opening a new chapter in its history. The whey cosmetics project is an example of innovative thinking and conscious use of trends.
