President Nicușor Dan will participate, between May 3-4, at the European Political Community (EPC) summit, organized in Yerevan, Armenia. The theme of the meeting is “Building the future together: unity and stability in Europe”.
According to the Presidential Administration, the head of state will co-chair, together with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, the round table dedicated to “democratic resilience and hybrid threats”. Also, Nicușor Dan will host an informal discussion on the impact of the Vertical Gas Corridor on regional energy security, in which a number of regional leaders will participate.
“The debates will cover democratic governance, combating disinformation and information manipulation, cyber security, defense, education and monitoring of technological developments, including in the field of artificial intelligence,” the Cotroceni Palace said.
According to the Presidential Administration, Nicușor Dan will plead for “a more coordinated approach at the European level, strong and transparent institutions and effective preventive measures against disinformation and external interference, with the aim of preventing current vulnerabilities from becoming long-term structural risks”.
In Yerevan, the President of Romania will also take part in a new meeting of the Coordinating Group (Core Group) for the Republic of Moldova, an informal multilateral mechanism to support its security and resilience.
Talks about drug trafficking too
The head of state will also participate in a meeting of the European Coalition Against Drugs (ECAD), an initiative launched by France and Italy.
The discussions will focus on “combating maritime and port drug trafficking, countering illicit financial flows, money laundering and corruption, reducing synthetic drug trafficking in Europe”, but also on adopting an integrated approach, which also includes the public health dimension, the quoted source says.
The European Political Community is a dialogue format between European leaders launched in 2022, at the initiative of France, and brings together both member states of the European Union and partner countries. The summits are organized alternately between EU member states and partner states, with Armenia assuming the role of host in this iteration.
