The Super League clubs unanimously agreed to officially request the postponement of the start of the new season! The 16 teams decided to convey to the FRF that they do not accept the date of July 10 and propose to start the championship on July 17, citing the lack of rest time for the players.

Today, at Poiana Brașov, the General Assembly of the 16 clubs in the Superliga took place. The main topic on the agenda was the financial situation of the Professional Football League, but other current topics were also discussed.

Among them was the proposal, adopted unanimously by the 16 teams, that the LPF go to the leadership of the Romanian Football Federation and convey the clear message that “we don't want to start the championship on July 10, as announced by the president Răzvan Burleanu”.

The 16 clubs want to postpone the start of the Super League

The clubs requested the management of the League to notify the FRF about the majority decision of the Superliga members, who proposed that the new competitive season begin on July 17, wrote golazo.ro.

Dani Coman, the president of the FC Argeș, explained to GSP.ro the reasons why the residents of Pitesti asked to postpone the start of the next season.

“On January 2, the vast majority of teams started training this year. The players had no time for rest, vacation, relaxation. Now we finish the competitive season on May 26th and on June 7th we have the reunion. On the 8th we should start work. It's way too little! You can not! Players need physical and mental rest“, said Dani Coman.

The former goalkeeper of the national team also scored: “If we want the level of Romanian football to increase, then the opinion of the clubs in the Super League must also be taken into account. And under the current conditions, with so few rest days, I think it's impossible. Unfortunately, we are not at the World Championship… Then I understood. Look, in Italy, the players have two months of vacation.”

The leader of Pitesti is convinced that LPF president Gino Iorgulescu will have a say in front of his counterpart from the Federation, Răzvan Burleanu. “I'm sure the League will fight for the clubs and we will find a solution to start the new season on July 17th! Players need extra time to recover physically and mentally”Coman also declared.

Clubs propose intermediate stage in February but LPF warns: 'It's cold and the pitches are frozen'

During the General Assembly meeting, LPF officials listened to the clubs' proposal, which they will proceed with at FRF, but at the same time it was explained to them that “the program is already very busy, and postponing the start by a week would lead to even greater crowding”.

The clubs admitted this, but remained firm on their positions: “We are delaying the start by a week and introducing an intermediate stage in February.” LPF officials retorted: “Then it's cold, the pitches are frozen, and the conditions are not the best for football.”

The final decision was clear: we request the FRF to postpone the start of the new season from July 10 to July 17. And automatically, The Romanian Supercup to be played a week later than it was scheduled, from July 4 to July 11, on the field of the Romanian champion.

I, as club president, have to see the good of the players and my team. We really have to think, first of all, about the state of the players, physically and mentally. Second, everyone organizes themselves to be able to make transfers. What to do in a week when people are on vacation?
