Kelemen Hunor, about the PSD-AUR motion of censure: If they have a majority, as is being circulated, then next week this government will probably fall. In theory, that majority remains valid
The president of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, believes that if PSD and AUR vote the motion of censure against the Bolojan Government, then the two parties can form a governing coalition together.
“I don't see the approach of PSD and AUR as something very beneficial for Romania. The moment the motion is submitted, of course, there is no turning back. We have to see the vote as well. If they have a majority, as is being circulated, then next week this government will probably fall. And the negotiations are starting, but I don't think it's something good for the country”, said the leader of the UDMR, on Monday, at the Parliament.
Asked what he thinks about a PSD-AUR Government, Kelemen Hunor says that “if a majority is formed somewhere to bring down the Government, that majority, theoretically, remains valid. Why do you bring down the Government if the next day that majority disappears?”.
He denies the possibility of Ilie Bolojan leaving the head of the Government until the vote on the censure motion and emphasizes that the parties in the Coalition are now in a conflict that can no longer be mediated.
“Once the censure motion is submitted, we have entered another street, which you have to follow to the end. If the Government falls when we start the discussions, then we will know what the next step is and what will coagulate. The President has only one constitutional obligation – if a party has a majority, that party must be tasked with forming the Government.”
UDMR: “We are not withdrawing our ministers“
The first reaction of the UDMR to the censure motion signed by AUR and PSD came from the leader of the deputies, Csoma Botond. He assured that the party will not vote on the no-confidence motion.
“If we see that the AUR has also entered the game, we will certainly not vote for such a motion of censure. In politics, never say never, but it will be an extremely difficult situation. I do not think that a PSD-AUR government will be reached. Of course, I cannot rule it out 100%, but I do not think so. There is also the option of not passing the motion”, declared Botond.
He added that “it will be very difficult to have a majority in Parliament, if PNL does not negotiate with PSD after the censure motion”.
In addition to refusing to support the motion, the leader of the UDMR deputies drew attention to a major risk: “You know that the CCR has a decision: Bolojan will no longer be able to be appointed, if somehow this government falls in Parliament. Honestly, if the PNL no longer wants to negotiate with the Social Democratic Party, I don't know what will happen.”
Former Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu (PSD) and number 2 in AUR, Petrișor Peiu, announced on Monday that the two parties will write and submit a joint motion of censure against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan.
