France is preparing Ukrainian pilots for combat missions on Mirage 2000-5F fighters

French air and space force pilots are training Ukrainian military personnel to fly Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets. The press service of the French Ministry of Armed Forces reported this on Facebook on April 25.

The French Armed Forces noted that the training takes place within the framework of the European Union mission (EUMAM) to train the Ukrainian military, emphasizing that the cooperation of the French armed forces with Ukrainian partners is permanent.

“Together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, new Ukrainian crews are undergoing combat training on Mirage 2000-5F aircraft and training in the maintenance of these aircraft. This is a concrete contribution to the security of the eastern flank of Europe,” the message says.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine expressed gratitude to its French partners for “consistent, comprehensive and unwavering support, which is a significant contribution to strengthening the defense capability of Ukraine and the security of the entire European continent.”

“France is one of Ukraine’s key European partners in the field of defense and security. In the field of personnel training, France plays a leading role in the European Union Mission to Provide Military Assistance to Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine). Training is carried out in France and Poland. In terms of quantitative indicators: since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, France has trained almost 10 thousand Ukrainian military personnel as of March 2024 (of which 8.8 thousand in 2023). by 2025, the total number of people trained under EUMAM Ukraine under the leadership of the French Army has reached almost 15 thousand people,” the General Staff reported.

The press service also noted that the training is organized in three areas:

  • tactical training and maintenance of supplied equipment (Caesar, Crotale NG, AMX 10-RC, MLRS, SAMPT);
  • specialized exercises (health care, logistics, mine clearance, reconnaissance);
  • formation of tactical units (combat operations in the city and trenches, command of a company and battalion).
