In Gabon, five female elephants trampled to death 75-year-old American millionaire Ernie Dosio during a hunt. The Daily Mail reported this on April 24.
The incident occurred on April 17 in Lope National Park, where the man was with a professional hunter. Dosio came to Central Africa in search of a rare trophy – the yellow-backed duiker, a small antelope. He paid approximately $40 thousand for this hunt.
Together with a professional guide, he went deep into the tropical forest, where dense thickets hide danger at literally every step. Hunters accidentally stumbled upon a herd of five female elephants with a baby. The media explains that for these animals any threat to the baby is a signal for an immediate attack.
Witnesses say the elephants appeared “as if out of nowhere” – they were so well hidden in the jungle.
The first to come under attack was a professional hunter. He was thrown back, severely injured and lost his rifle. At this moment, Dosio was left practically defenseless – only with a gun against an angry herd of giants. The elephants rushed forward and trampled the man. The material indicates that Dosio hunted precisely such animals all his life. Over the decades, he has taken trophies of elephants, lions, rhinoceroses and leopards. His California home had entire rooms filled with hunting trophies.
His acquaintances claim that all hunting cases were legal, they were even considered part of animal population control programs.
