The “Fossil Beauty” calendar, released by JSC SUEK-Krasnoyarsk, became a laureate of the XVIII All-Russian competition “Corporate Calendar”.

The project received three awards, including a victory in the categories “Best Corporate Calendar” and “Best Photo Images”, as well as a 2nd degree diploma in the category “Public Recognition”.

The visual solution of the calendar is based on macro photography of the coal surface, capturing natural forms – imprints of ancient ferns and shells formed millions of years ago. As the authors of the project emphasize, these images are not artistic reconstructions, but represent documented traces of prehistoric life.

One of the key sources of inspiration for creating the calendar was paleontological finds at the Berezovsky section in the Sharypovsky district. It was there that the most complete skeleton of a stegosaurus in Russia was discovered, as well as the remains of the dinosaur Kileskus aristotocus, previously unknown to science. The project, according to its creators, is intended to demonstrate that coal mining is inextricably linked with the study of geological history.

As noted by the General Director of SUEK-Krasnoyarsk JSC Evgeniy Yevtushenko, the subsoil of the Kansk-Achinsk basin contains not only high-quality thermal coals, but also unique paleontological material: “The “Fossil Beauty” calendar is precisely about the fact that we work not just with coal, but with history.”

The art director of the project, Denis Kremenets, explained that when creating the calendar, the principle of “silence” of visual space was used. A significant part of the sheet area is left free in order to focus the viewer’s attention on the details of the natural ornament. “We found a metaphor for time inside coal mining itself,” added Kremenets. “These forms cannot be invented, they can only be discovered.”

Photographers Anastasia Tamarovskaya and Sergey Chivikov, as well as producer Rimma Roman, worked on the implementation of the project. The SUEK-Krasnoyarsk company views the calendar not as a printed periodical, but as a cultural statement aimed at rethinking the role of fossil resources in preserving historical memory.
