The planned overhaul of the hydraulic unit was completed at the Boguchanskaya HPP

April 22 11:16

In the second ten days of April, the planned overhaul of hydraulic unit No. 4 was completed at the Boguchanskaya HPP in accordance with the schedule.

After a series of final tests and verification of the operation of the transformers, the unit is connected to the network and operates under load in accordance with the dispatch schedule. The main goal of the repairs is to increase the reliability and safety of operation of hydraulic units and uninterrupted supply of environmentally friendly electricity to consumers.

“Completing the overhaul is an important stage in preparing the station for the critical flood period. The renovation was carried out in strict accordance with the schedule and quality standards. By the beginning of the active phase of the flood, all units of the Boguchanskaya HPP will be in operation or in reserve, which will allow us to quickly respond to any changes in the hydrological situation,” noted First Deputy General Director – Chief Engineer of Boguchanskaya HPP JSC Alexander Chainikov.

In accordance with regulatory requirements, routine repairs are carried out annually, and major repairs are carried out on average once every five years, after the unit has operated for 32 thousand hours. The annual schedule is drawn up according to a scheme that allows reducing equipment downtime and increasing work efficiency.

Industrial operation of hydraulic unit No. 4 began on December 29, 2012; it was taken out for another major overhaul in the first days of January 2026. The work provided for in the plan lasted more than 70 days and included repair of the thrust bearing, guide bearings of the hydraulic turbine and hydraulic generator, maintenance of the electro-hydraulic regulator, etc.

In the first quarter of 2026, routine repairs of hydraulic units No. 2 and 3 were completed at the Boguchanskaya HPP. In April, specialists began the planned routine maintenance of hydraulic unit No. 8, which will be completed by the beginning of May. The next ongoing repairs will begin after the end of the flood in June, and a major overhaul of hydraulic unit No. 6 is planned for the fall.

On the eve of the spring flood, the staff of the Boguchanskaya HPP constantly monitors the hydrological situation. The free volume of the reservoir is about 2 cubic kilometers, which guarantees safe reception and regulation of the Angara flow during periods of intense snowmelt.

According to the requirements of the “Technical Operation Rules”, all hydroelectric power plant equipment must regularly undergo a full inspection of all components and parts. Planned repair work is aimed at a thorough analysis of the condition of the turbine, generator equipment and auxiliary systems of the hydraulic unit and the elimination of identified defects. Before being taken out for repairs, each unit undergoes preliminary preparation (draining of the water pipeline and spiral chamber, initial inspection of equipment, etc.), and after completion of the work, a series of tests is carried out: at idle, vibration, as well as acceptance tests under load for 48 hours.
