According to Zhukov, the decision to leave the post was a reaction to an incident with patrol police officers who arrived at the scene of a shooting in Kyiv on April 18, but fled after shots were fired.
“As a combat officer, I decided to submit a report for dismissal from my position. I think it will be fair,” he said.
Zhukov also criticized the actions of his subordinates. According to him, the police acted unprofessionally and “unworthy of police officers” by not providing assistance to the wounded civilians.
“It’s a shameful situation. They were poorly oriented and left wounded civilians in danger,” Zhukov said.
According to him, the police have already announced an official investigation. Not only the direct participants in the incident, but also their leaders can be held accountable.
At the same time, the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vygovsky, noted that another position could be found for Zhukov.
“Perhaps it will be connected with assistance specifically regarding the war,” he said.
