Liverpool strike in extra time and win the “Merseyside” derby » Van Dijk decided the game

Everton and Liverpool provided a dramatic finish to the first 'Merseyside' derby played at the 'Hill Dickinson Stadium'.

The “Cormorants” prevailed 2-1, thanks to the goal scored by Virgil van Dijk in the 90th+10th minute.

Everton, the better start, but Liverpool take the lead at half-time

The hosts started the game better and were the more dangerous team in the first half. Beto and Garner caused trouble and Iliman Ndiaye scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, Liverpool struck on the counter-attack and opened the scoring through Mohamed Salah, taking the lead at the booth.

The second half started perfectly for Everton. In the 54th minute, Beto completed an excellent move and restored parity.

Liverpool tried to regain the lead and Cody Gakpo came very close to scoring, but Tarkowski made a save on the goal line.

When the game seemed tied, Liverpool struck the decisive blow. In the 90th+10th minute, after a corner executed by Dominik Szoboszlai, Virgil van Dijk broke away from the marker and restarted perfectly with his head, bringing victory to the “cormorants”.
