Tension between Trump and the Pope. The head of the Church of England supports Leo XIV

“I support my brother in Christ, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, in his bold call to build a kingdom of peace. As innocent people are killed and displaced, families torn apart and futures destroyed, the human costs of war are incalculable,” Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally, the first-ever woman to head the Church of England, wrote in a statement.
She called on the 85 million Anglicans around the world to join Leo XIV in appealing for peace and justice.
“The calling of every Christian – and of all people of faith and good will – is to work and pray for peace. We must also call on all those entrusted with political power to seek all possible peaceful and just means of resolving the conflict,” she added.
Earlier in the day, the pope, who is in Cameroon during a visit to four African countries, criticized leaders who pour billions into military action and said the world was being “destroyed by a handful of tyrants.”

During Monday's meeting with journalists, Leo XIV emphasized that he would continue calls for peace and opposition to hostilities. He also stressed that he was not afraid of the position of the US authorities and did not intend to enter into a public polemic with the President of the United States.
