Ianis Zicu took over Farul at the beginning of this season, after achieving the miraculous promotion with Metaloglobus in the Superliga.
The team from Constanta missed the goal of qualifying in the play-off, and the last results led Ianis Zicu to resign, after Farul recorded two consecutive failures with the same score, 0-1, against Unirea Slobozia and Hermannstadt.
In the 34 matches played by Farul this season in the Super League, the Constantinians suffered 15 defeats, 13 of which were at the limit. Otherwise, the players from Constanta scored 11 wins and 8 draws under the command of Ianis Zicu.
Ianis Zicu announced his resignation from Farul
“It's painful, it's frustrating because we had opportunities to open the scoring. Things have been this way for a while, we've lost games and points undeservedly and I think at this point it would be best if there was a shock to the team.
In Romania, this is what helps and, as much as I love the team, I think about this too. I simply believe that the team must come before anyone and anything. I had everything I wanted here and I didn't achieve what I set out to do at the beginning of the season.
I'm not a coach who sticks to the chair, I think it's the right time for the club to be able to move on and find the solution, because the next game is in 10 days.
At this moment there is only one thing: the Farul club should manage to save itself mathematically as soon as possible. At this moment I feel a mental exhaustion that I have had for a long time, I wanted more this year, health comes first. Goals taken at the end of the game, unfortunately things don't work.
As certain teams have come out of it with a bit of a shock, I think it's time to take a step back. I love Farul, I love the players”, declared Ianis Zicu, at Prima Sport.
