Recruitment is Romania's new line of defense

In a global context where security no longer means exclusively armaments, but advanced technology, operational intelligence and highly qualified human resources, Romania's defense industry is going through one of the most important moments in its recent evolution.

At the heart of this transformation is not just investment or international strategic partnerships, but an essential, long-underestimated element: recruitment.

From the perspective of the defense industry, the message is a firm and responsible one: security cannot be built without the right people, trained and available at the right time.

Today, strategic competition is no longer exclusively between states, but also between industries pursuing the same critical skills: engineers, production and maintenance specialists, experts in drones, artificial intelligence, cyber security and complex systems.

In this context, the defense industry becomes a strategic pillar of the national economy and an elite employer, with a direct impact on Romania's safety and the Euro-Atlantic security architecture.

Attracting and retaining this talent requires a paradigm shift.

A passive approach based on classical recruitment mechanisms is no longer sufficient. The industry needs proactive, coordinated and professional measures, real partnerships with specialized actors, coherent employer branding campaigns and a constant presence in the ecosystems where specialists are trained and active – academia, technological communities and the digital space.

In this framework, specialized recruitment firms are no longer mere intermediaries, but strategic partners of the defense industry, able to contribute directly to the operation and continuity of national capabilities.

A relevant example in this regard is the collaboration with LUNOX International Holding, OPIA's partner in the area of recruitment and integration of critical human resources for the defense industry.

Their role is not only to identify skills, but also to select human profiles compatible with the demands of a field where responsibility is maximum and the margin of error is minimal.

OPIA – Defense Industry Employers' Organization supports and develops such partnerships, which transform the human resource from a structural vulnerability into a factor of strategic stability.

“Recruiting for the defense industry is essentially about delivering security.
An ammunition production line or armor maintenance facility cannot function without elite technicians. Our mission, as a partner of OPIA, is to help reduce this silent vulnerability of the sector.
By providing rare professionals, at the right time, we support the transformation of the personnel shortage from an operational risk into a strategic advantage for the Romanian defense industry.”
— Dragoș Gruia, President, LUNOX International Holding

At the same time, it is essential that the industry understands the profound change in the motivations of the new generations. Young professionals are not just looking for stability or financial benefits, but for meaning, relevance and real impact.
The defense industry has a distinct advantage here: the ability to contribute directly to a nation's security and regional stability.

Romania needs a modern defense industry, open and connected to global trends, but at the same time well anchored in its economic and social realities. An industry that strategically invests in people, trains and retains them, recognizing that the human resource is the most valuable and difficult to rebuild capacity.

Because, in the end, the most efficient systems are not those produced exclusively by machines, but by people, and the future of Romania's security begins with the people we choose and train today.
