Corona Brașov issued an official statement after losing the final of the Romanian Men's Volleyball Cup in an incredible way, on the “green table”. In the last act, played in the Multipurpose Hall in Blaj, the people of Brasov met SCM Zalău.
The final was extremely balanced. Corona won the first set, 25-20, but Zalăul came back and won the next two sets, 27-25 and 25-14. The fourth set was dramatic: SCM Zalău missed two match points, and Corona prevailed 34-32, sending the game into the decider.
However, the decisive set did not reach the end. Zalăul won the trophy “on the green table”, after a violation of the rules was found on the part of the residents of Brasov. More precisely, at the score of 24-23 in the fourth set, Corona did not have the mandatory minimum number of two Romanian players on the field, a rule imposed by the Romanian Volleyball Federation.
Following this incident, the Brașov club apologized to the supporters for the error committed.
Corona Brașov, explanations after the technical error during the Romanian Cup final:
Corona Brașov Municipal Sports Club expresses its sincere regret to the supporters of the men's volleyball team for the outcome of the Romanian Cup final, in which the Brașov team lost the match on the green table.
An error occurred in the context of the match, amplified by the emotions and tension of a confrontation of such importance, lead to a situation that cost our team the fourth set and, implicitly, the match. This situation deeply affects both the technical staff and the players, who wanted to give the supporters a quality sporting show and, why not, a victory.
We regret that this final was not decided exclusively on the pitchin the spirit of sports competition, but following a human error. We consider this moment a difficult one, but one from which we have to learn, so that such situations do not repeat themselves in the future, regardless of the sports discipline.
We thank the supporters for their constant support and assure them that we remain true to our performance and hard work. We look forward to seeing them with us at the team's future matches and we promise to do our best not to disappoint them.
