The first victim of a tick bite in the Krasnoyarsk Territory this year was a 12-year-old girl. This was reported by Rospotrebnadzor.
The suction occurred on March 28 on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Badalyk cemetery – a tick was found on the child’s head. The family sought medical help the next day. The girl was vaccinated against viral encephalitis, and the tick was sent for laboratory testing.
Epidemiologists remind that with the onset of the tick activity season, any trip to nature, visiting parks and cemeteries requires compliance with preventive and protective measures:
“Use repellents, wear covered clothing, inspect yourself and children every 20-30 minutes during walks, and if you find a tick, try to immediately remove it and save it for research. Make sure you get vaccinated if you are not already vaccinated!”
Previously, experts warned that, depending on weather conditions, the first tick activity would begin to appear at the end of March or in the first ten days of April. In this season, their numbers in the Krasnoyarsk Territory as a whole are projected at the long-term average level. An increase in the number of taiga ticks is expected in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk, Sharypov, Lesosibirsk and the Ilan-Nizhneingashsky district, as well as an increase in the number of steppe ticks in the vicinity of Minusinsk. At the same time, the number of taiga ticks in the Achinsk area is expected to remain at last year’s level and a decline in steppe ticks in the vicinity of Kansk.
