ASE, at 113 years old: a university that not only reflects the economy, but contributes to its shaping

The university is marking 113 years of existence through a week of academic and scientific events, in a context where the focus is on training skills relevant to the current economy and attracting new generations of students.

In a period when universities are called to respond directly to the transformations of the economy and society, the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest marks 113 years of existence, reaffirming its role as a trainer of skills, ideas and directions for the future.

Founded on April 6, 1913, under the name of the Academy of Higher Commercial and Industrial Studies, ASE has evolved from an elite institution of the early 20th century to a complex academic ecosystem, connected to the global dynamics of the economy. Today, the university brings together approximately 25,000 students and offers study programs in Romanian, English, French and German.

Under the anniversary message “ASE 113 — Building on”the university proposes not only a celebration of the past, but a reaffirmation of its strategic direction: academic excellence, internationalization and relevance for the labor market.

An academic space where not only skills are formed, but visions

In an economic context marked by accelerated transformations, ASE assumes the role of training not only specialists, but professionals capable of critical thinking, making informed decisions and contributing to the sustainable development of society.

This mission is reflected in the way the university structures its study programs and extracurricular activities, emphasizing interdisciplinarity, adaptability and permanent connection to the economic environment.

113 years, reflected in a week of academic performance

The anniversary program brings together academic, scientific and cultural events that illustrate the complexity of a modern university.

The academic dimension is supported by:

• Student Scientific Communications Session, with over 1,250 students and approximately 850 worksorganized in 40 sections;
• scientific sessions organized at the faculty level;
• the conference organized in partnership with the National Bank of Romania, dedicated to the theme “Risks and opportunities in the Romanian financial system”.

In parallel, the university strengthens its relationship with the pre-university environment through the national competition “Today's students, tomorrow's professionals”which brings together over 1,000 students from the whole country, with 531 projects registered.

The events are complemented by cultural and artistic events — vernissages, publishing launches and student performances — as well as sports competitions dedicated to the university community.

Tradition and institutional memory, as the foundation of the future

The anniversary also includes moments with a strong symbolic charge, dedicated tributes to the great personalities of ASEthrough wreath-laying ceremonies, as a sign of respect to the rectors, deans and professors who contributed to building the institution's prestige.

The 113-year anniversary takes place in a relevant context for future students: the launch of the process of ASE 2026 admission.

The university proposes an educational offer adapted to the demands of employers and the evolution of the global economy, with programs in four languages ​​of study and with a clear orientation towards applied and interdisciplinary skills.
