Ukraine and Saudi Arabia sign an agreement. Defense cooperation


President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the defense ministries of Ukraine and Saudi Arabia have concluded a document on cooperation in the field of defense. The parties signed the agreement before the start of the meeting between the Ukrainian leader and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.

“We have an important agreement between the defense ministries of Ukraine and Saudi Arabia on cooperation in the field of defense. […] It forms the basis for future agreements, technological cooperation and investments and strengthens Ukraine's international role as a provider of security solutions,” Zelensky wrote in the Telegram messenger.

Ukraine declared its readiness to share its expertise and defense systems with Saudi Arabia. The President emphasized that the parties can cooperate to strengthen the protection of life. Zelensky pointed out that Ukrainians have been struggling for five years with terrorist attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, similar to those currently being carried out by the Iranian regime in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.

Talks with the heir to the throne of Saudi Arabia

During his meeting with Mohammed bin Salman, the Ukrainian leader discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region. The talks also covered the support provided to Tehran by Russia, the situation on the fuel markets and possible cooperation between Kiev and Riyadh in the field of energy.

Ukrainian systems in the Persian Gulf region

On Thursday, the president announced that Ukraine proposed long-term cooperation to the countries of the Middle East and Persian Gulf region to protect their airspace against drones. Kyiv has already prepared the first contracts.

The RBK-Ukraina news agency reported that a total of 228 people carry out tasks in, among others, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan.

Airstrikes by Israeli and US forces on Iran have been ongoing since February 28. In response, Tehran attacks Israel and several countries in the region, hitting both American bases and civilian facilities located there.
