FIFA has announced plans for a final round of ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup. The world football governing body said more than one million tickets had been sold by the end of the previous edition, between December and February, and additional tickets would go on general sale from April 1 until the end of the tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19.
This latest phase comes after FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced in January that ticket demand was like “1000 years of World Cups at once” and that all 104 matches of the last edition of the Cup would be sold-out, according to sportal.bg.
FIFA is facing criticism over its ticket pricing strategy for the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The last tranche of ticket sales for the World Cup begins on April 1
Fans accused FIFA of betrayal in December when tickets went on general sale at prices ranging from $140 for the cheapest group stage matches to $8,680 for the final.
This week, Football Supporters Europe said it had joined consumer group Euroconsumers to lodge a formal complaint with the European Commission about the prices.
The ESF criticized excessively high nominal prices and the use of “dynamic pricing” for the first time at a World Cup, which could lead to an even higher increase in costs.
FIFA said the remaining tickets would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. FIFA said the latest phase will allow fans to choose specific seats, while those who have already purchased tickets will be able to see which seats have been allocated to them from 1 April.
