Iran stops gas supplies to Turkey. The reason was the attack on South Pars

According to information from the Turkish Association of Natural Gas Distributors, in 2025 Türkiye imported approximately 14 percent from Iran. gas used in the country. Despite the suspension of supplies from its Iranian partner, Ankara uses gas from its main suppliers: Russia and Azerbaijan, as well as from its own reserves accumulated for crisis situations. Bloomberg emphasized that Türkiye still has access to alternative sources of raw material.
It is unclear how long the current interruption in Iranian gas supplies will last. The Turkish Ministry of Energy did not comment on this matter.
Bloomberg recalled that even in times of peace, Iran periodically suspended gas exports to Turkey, explaining it by technical problems. Such situations most often occurred during winter, when the demand for gas in the northern regions of Iran increased significantly.

The South Pars/North Dome field, which Iran has been exploiting together with Qatar since the late 1990s, supplies about 70 percent. natural gas consumed by this country. In June 2025, an Israeli attack on South Pars caused a massive explosion and fire.
These events are part of a broader context of tensions in the Middle East. Israel and the United States launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran launched attacks on Israel and several Persian Gulf states, hitting both American military bases and civilian facilities.
