From Monday, gas stations in Slovakia have higher diesel prices for foreigners than for domestic drivers. The Ministry of Finance has set the price at EUR 1,826 per liter. There is also a refueling limit – you can fill the car's tank and a 10-liter canister.

The price for foreign drivers was determined based on the average of diesel prices from Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland, using EU data. It was announced on Thursday, but the government gave gas stations time to prepare their pumps.
The price for drivers from Slovakia is still determined by the market, but the government has asked the only refinery in the country, Slovnaft, which belongs to the Hungarian concern MOL, to raise prices carefully. A liter of diesel cost just over 1.5 euros on the weekend.
Prime Minister Robert Fico, who announced the government's decision on Wednesday, talked about fuel tourism and accused Poles of drying up Slovak stations. – There has been a situation in which dozens of gas stations have literally dried up in the north of Slovakia because prices there are lower than in Poland. It was and still is profitable for Polish citizens to come to Slovakia for shopping purposes and to obtain fuel in Slovakia – he explained the reasons for introducing double prices.
On Sunday, in a program on Slovak state television, the Prime Minister said that he was not afraid of finding irregularities by the European Commission, because the regulation on prices was introduced only for 30 days and Brussels institutions would not have time to react to it.
