US officials have detected unidentified drones over a military base in Washington, where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth live, three sources told the “Washington Post”, quoted by Reuters.
So far it has not been determined where the drones came from, the article says.
Drones appearing over Fort McNair prompted US officials to consider moving Rubio and Hegseth.
However, the Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense have not moved according to one of the WP sources.
The newspaper said the US military is monitoring potential threats more closely because of the heightened alert level in the context of the US-Israeli war against Iran.
The Pentagon and the US State Department did not respond to requests for comment. The Pentagon's chief spokesman, Sean Parnell, declined to discuss the drones with the Washington Post.
“The department cannot comment on the movements of the secretary (Hegseth) for security reasons, and reporting such movements is highly irresponsible,” he said.
