From April 16 to 19, the International Robotics Championship “Krasnoyarsk 7.0” will be held at the Sibir International Exhibition Center. The mayor's office said that this year they will present a new competitive area at the event – drone football.

Drone football is an innovative team sport where pilots control drones in protective spheres in a special arena, trying to score a goal against the opponent. The game combines piloting, robotics and tactical skills. The format is aimed at training future specialists in the field of UAVs.

The matches will take place in a closed space of 6×3 meters, covered with a net. The team consists of pilots, coaches and technical specialists, up to 8 players in total. The match consists of three rounds of three minutes each, with each team having time between rounds to repair damage. Participants must have experience flying drones, confirmed by the trainer or organizers.

“The Drone Football League aims to create an innovative sports and educational environment where participants develop engineering and team skills and popularize STEM disciplines. The skill of controlling drones gives advantages in work, research, and military affairs. We hope that drone football will become larger every year,” said Maxim Turushev, director of the Robotics Laboratory “Engineers of the Future,” said Maxim Turushev.

Now the team “RobboDron” from the Krasnodar Territory has entered the championship. Applications are accepted until April 1 on the official website. Detailed competition regulations can be found at this link.

The athletes will be judged by Alexander Kholkin, world champion in drone racing in the International Drone Champions League, two-time Russian champion and the best pilot in the world.

“I have been flying drones for more than 8 years. Born and studied in Krasnoyarsk – schools No. 149 and No. 145. Now a student at Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman, majoring in “Aircraft Control Systems”. For the championship, our team developed sports technical regulations and prepared a training webinar. Thanks to such competitions, the competencies of assembling, configuring, operating and controlling drones are developed, which is very important in our time,” noted Alexander Kholkin.

In total, 16 competitive areas will be presented at the championship. More than 110 teams from 24 constituent entities of the Russian Federation will take part in the event. Roboticists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong will also arrive. The theme of the season is “Safe Route.” The guys must design robots related to improving road infrastructure.

The business program of the championship is currently being worked out. Interactive platforms, master classes, and photo zones will be organized for participants. The competition is open, and for four days everyone can cheer for the teams and immerse themselves in the world of robotics.
