Pauletta Foppa (25), the European, World and Olympic champion and vice-champion, became pregnant and announced that she will be absent from the handball court for a while. The pivot of Brest and the French national team could miss a “double” with Gloria Bistrita if the Romanian team qualifies for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Pauletta Foppa, a handball player with almost 100 matches in the national team shirt, will be absent from the field for several months. She excitedly announced that she was pregnant and posted several photos of herself and her partner.

Foppa also published a message, being congratulated by several colleagues from the French national team.
“All my life I have watched balls, victories and emotions on the field. Handball made me the person I am today. But life decided to give me a moment greater than all the matches I played. A little heart is growing inside me and soon a new life will join our team. I'll miss the pitch, the thrills… but I'm about to play the most important role of my life“, wrote the 25-year-old player.
“Pauletta, we wish you all the happiness in the world in this new chapter of your life. BBH has your back and supports you in this wonderful adventure,” Brest Bretagne Handball said, according to L'Equipe.
Pauletta Foppa has been playing in Brest since 2018 and scored 49 goals in the current Champions League season, 6 coming in duels with CSM Bucharest. Also at the December 2025 World Cup, where France finished 3rd, Foppa scored 27 goals.
Brest qualified directly for the quarter-finals of the Champions League and will face either Gloria Bistrita or Ikast. The Romanian-Danish “double” will take place on March 22 (Denmark) and March 28 (Romania).
