On Saturday, Kimi Antonelli, aged 19 years, 6 months and 18 days, became the youngest driver in F1 history to take pole position for a Grand Prix.
The Italian took advantage of team-mate George Russell's situation, limited by single-seater technical issues to a single fast lap in Q3, to set the fastest time in Chinese qualifying, 1:32.064.
“I think I had a very good session, it was clean, no mistakes, I'm looking forward to the race,” Antonelli said after qualifying.
It is expected that at least in the first laps, the Ferrari and Mercedes single-seaters will have a fierce battle for the leadership of the race. This also happened in the sprint race, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton alternating in the lead of the race for several laps, until the Briton managed to break away.

In 2025, the race in China was won by Oscar Piastri (McLaren). In 2024, by Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing). In the previous 4 years it was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
