Trump's reaction after the FBI issued an alert that Iranian drones could hit the US west coast

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he is not concerned about the possibility of Iranian-backed attacks on the United States, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned that Iranian drones could strike the US West Coast, ABC News reported, according to Reuters.

The US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran almost two weeks ago, plunging the Gulf region into war. Tehran has launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes in response to US-Israeli airstrikes that have killed senior Iranian officials, including the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

When asked Wednesday if he was concerned that Iran might step up its retaliation with attacks on US soil, Trump told reporters: “No, I'm not.”

ABC News later reported that the FBI warned California police departments that Iran could retaliate against US attacks by launching drones over the West Coast.

“We recently obtained information that, in early February 2026, Iran intended to launch a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones, no) from an unidentified ship off the coast of the United States, specifically against unspecified targets in California, should the United States launch attacks against Iran,” the FBI wrote in an alert distributed in late February, according to the American television station.

“We have no additional information regarding the timing, method, target or perpetrators of this alleged attack,” the FBI added.

Reuters wrote earlier this month that Iran and the militant groups in the Middle East region that Tehran supports could target the US with attacks in response to US bombing.

A threat assessment by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis showed that Iran and its allies “probably” pose a threat of targeted attacks on the United States, although a large-scale physical attack is unlikely.

Iran's missiles can target “any location” of Tehran's choosing, parliament speaker says

Iran is capable of targeting “any location it chooses,” the speaker of Iran's parliament insisted Wednesday, rejecting US claims that the Islamic Republic's ballistic capabilities have been destroyed, CNN reports.

In a post on social network X, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf claimed that Iran's previous missile launches since the beginning of the war were aimed at “blinding the enemy's radars and defense systems” and that as a result, Iran can now “target any location it chooses with fewer missiles”.

The post comes after President Trump told ABC over the weekend that “the majority” of Iran's missiles and other weapons had been destroyed.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf's message also came as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday it had launched its “most intense and powerful operation” since the start of the war.

Iran says its overnight attack involved missile launches, including Khorramshahr long-range ballistic missiles, against targets in Israel and US assets in the region.
