President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukrainian experts dealing with drone interception systems will arrive in the Middle East next week. They are going there to provide immediate support, Zelensky emphasized. Many Middle Eastern countries are attacked by Iranian drones.
– If we are talking about increasing certain funds, we would really like it to be a possibility that works both ways. You know our deficit of certain resources, and we also understand what resources the Gulf (Persian) countries lack. This means that we are also talking about this track of cooperation. It's too early for other details yet. Next week, when experts will be on site, they will look around and help, because they are going there with specific possibilities, Zelensky said during a press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, who came to visit Kiev.
The President of Ukraine said that he discussed with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands the challenges arising from the war in the Middle East, during which Iran is attacking the countries of the Persian Gulf.
I count on coordination at both the bilateral and European levels so that Europe's interests are secured and that the destabilization around Iran does not lead to aggravation of problems in Europe, Zelensky wrote in the Telegram messenger.
The leader said that Ukraine has already started to contribute to stabilization. “The countries of the region and the United States have asked Ukraine for support, and we will provide them with the necessary resources and our expert knowledge – the experience of our military – in the field of protection against the Shahed,” he emphasized. Shahed is a type of Iranian strike drone that is also massively used by Russian troops in attacks on Ukraine.
According to the US administration Iranian Shahed drones pose a greater threat than expected – CNN reported on Wednesday. The station added that according to this assessment, American air defense will not be able to intercept all of these machines.
On Thursday, Zelensky announced that the US had asked Ukraine for support in defense against the Shahed in the Middle East. He added that appropriate resources will be mobilized and the presence of Ukrainian specialists will be ensured.
Sunday is the ninth day of the war in the Middle East. On February 28, Israel and the US launched airstrikes against Iran, which in response attacks Israel and the Persian Gulf countries, hitting both American bases located there and civilian facilities.
