Explosion in front of the US embassy in Norway. Unclear circumstances


Around 1 a.m., a loud bang was heard in the western part of the Norwegian capital. According to eyewitness accounts quoted by Reuters, clouds of smoke rose above the embassy premises.
Police spokesman Mikael Dellemyr said that officers determined that the explosion occurred in front of the United States diplomatic mission, at the entrance to the consulate.

In a separate statement, the Norwegian police announced that the cause of the explosion and the identity of the perpetrator are not known at this time. The issued statement noted that officers were in contact with the embassy and no people were injured as a result of the explosion.
The US Embassy and the US Department of State did not comment on the matter.
